Wonder Woman 1984: Wings of Asteria

“Wings of Asteria” is a subtractive cut intended to be a more grounded and subtle alternative to the theatrical cut. It re-scopes the conflict to focus on the impacts closest to home, reframes Max Lord to produce a more satisfying character arc, and resolves various plot holes, inconsistencies, and other distractions.

Warning: The following list includes major spoilers.

  • Diana no longer drops the thieves after the mall heist

  • Instead of being “resurrected” into someone else’s body, Steve’s simply himself

  • Removed all scenes and dialogue related to stealing the airplane and flying to Cairo

  • Removed the subplot of the Egyptian wall. (“The King of Crude” still divides Egypt, but politically instead of literally.)

  • While nuclear proliferation is still a theme, it’s less central to the plot and doesn’t escalate to war

  • Steve no longer grabs the decorative sword from the wall of the White House

  • Removed the scene of Diana teaching herself to fly

  • Shortened the last fight scene with Cheetah to balance her strength with Asteria’s armor

  • Removed the flashbacks to Max’s childhood

  • Removed all scenes and dialogue suggesting it’s necessary for everyone to renounce their wishes. Instead, Max renouncing the power of the Dreamstone is presumed to negate the wishes he granted with it.

  • Removed the man speaking and Diana repeating “so many things”
